Finally college

Roaches one and all,
I just thought that I would let you know that Jack Chambers and I have successfully begun a new chapter in our lives. Earlier this week both of us began classes here at Gonzaga University. Everyone kind of half jokingly (or seriously) seemed to be wondering what I would be doing after my year off, so it is with great excitement and academic focus that I post this. I was really nervous about going back to school last week, but when I arrived last Friday and aunt Mimi and judge Jerryyyy hit the road I realized just how ready I am, I've been gone and almost on my own for a year. It was a great feeling to walk into the bookstore, the registrar's office, the meetings and be able to do what was required without the assistance of anyone (so many parents waited hand and foot on their clueless kids). It was a particularly neat (as grandma would say) experience to write my first tuition check purely with my own money (next year that may not happen). So you may wonder why I am even posting this. Well first because everyone is always complaining about the lack of blog use. But second because I thought that you should be aware that yes, Wim did go to college, and it's even a Catholic one. And finally third: you younger cousins, I'd actually encourage you to take a well-planned and mapped out year off before college if you don't feel ready (or just don't want to go straight away). Some of my experiences were better education than school can offer (plus it doesn't hurt to start school with 20 some G's in the bank). Love you ALL, I'm off to Religion 120.
Keep me in your prayers; you're in mine,
wim

Great Job Wim. Although I do not want to get into the politics of it all, I appreciate your point about taking a year off between high school and college-- it was probably a good choice and so many experiences (and $$$) by doing it!-- but think that each family needs to take that on a case by case basis.... You wait a couple of semesters and you'll realize that college might be the best environment on earth for 'knowing thyself', (at least, knowing thy brain potential) and if the world were a perfect place, I cant think of a more utopian arrangement than being enveloped in knowledge and thinking on a college campus, not needing to make a living (such that it distracts from your ability to think the big thoughts), and meeting many of your true prospective professional peers (and sizing yourself up with them too)... I was bursting at the seams to get from high school to college. If I DIDNT go to college right after high school I may have never gone. Seriously....! So I think its a case by case thing, with the general rule being "get to college and let the 'fresh-young mind meets fresh new thoughts' thing happen as quick as it can, though if its not in the cards for some folks, thats fine too... I look back and yearn for my college experiences and mindset in many ways still. When you dont need to be practical, and can (luckily) afford to intellectually be a little more philisophical and idealistic, you really do get to experience your own perfect world in a lot of ways in college. I love the institution of college, and often wish I could continue on learning in that fashion if I could "afford" to do it these days (time is now the issue...). So enjoy it and, let me relive it with you a bit in the next few years!!!

So, turning to more important things, has Kevin introduced you to any babes yet, Wim? Jack?

Remember that we taught you to share, Kevin.

dad, its wim and jacks job to introduce me to all the new babes on campus (trust me there are plenty), yet so far they have failed to do so....

wim. great post. all i can say is enjoy every moment of it. I already feel nostalgic about missing college and i still have a year left. It flies by. enjoy having your cousins there with you as well. that is one of the few things that i regret about going to school at notre dame.

Hey Colin, I was "there with you as well" last year at this time watching the Fighting Irish Beat the Stanford Trees. How quickly one forgets the best moments of one's life, or maybe you just haven't realized it yet. Well, when college is all overwith and you're "taking a year off" between things, I realize that although I really appreciate what I am learning here at Roach Law Offices, I would trade it all gladly to be back in classes at some institution of higher learning than here in the real world having to think about money, working and nonsense. I'm not old enough for this yet.
I might see you at GU Law next year if I can't get into U of Hawaii. Eamonn

Like Brian, I might not have made it if I I didn't get RIGHT to college after highschool.

But, like Wim, I know what spending some time under Warren Johnson's tutelage can do for a guy's state of mind.

Congrats, Wim. You're one of the G-crew (that's Gardiner, suckas), and we're an elite bunch. Never forget it.
